Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Friday Week 25 Ordinary time - September 25, 2020

FRIDAY 25TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, Luke 9:18-22

GOD'S TIME IS THE BEST

There is a cliche that there is time for everything on earth. As human beings, we calculate everything in terms of times and seasons. We categorize time for planting and harvesting, raining and dry season, e.t.c. Different fruits for example, have their own seasons. It will be impossible for example to see a mango fruit today.

Human beings move from one stage of life to the other. We were born and we gradually develop into who or what we are today. The choices we made throughout our lives, determines who or what we will become. The choice we make today will also after us tomorrow.

Many Psychologists have said that many people find it difficult to move from one stage of life to the next, we always want to remain at the stage where we are most comfortable. We should know that in life, things are not very straightforward. In our daily movement from one stage of life to another, there will be times when we are happy and times we will be sad, times we are hungry and when we have more than what we need, time to suffer and plant and time to enjoy our harvest, time to laugh and times when we will cry, a time will also come when we will die.

Looking at these times and seasons, we discover that life truly is nothing without God who does not have times and season. We can recall that when Jesus told Peter to cast his net inside the water and he caught huge number of fish which he was unable to draw out of the river, it was really not the time and season of the day when fishing is done. We can only be happy in the season of sadness when we are on the side of God.  Let us use our time well, trusting in God. God help us. Amen.
