Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Tuesday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 3, 2020

TUESDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2020 MEMORIAL OF ST. MARTIN DE PORRES Philippians 2:1-5, Luke 14:15-24 HUMILITY IS ALWAYS REWARDED The theme of humility is very evident in the person of St Martin of porres who we celebrate today. Being from a very humble background, he learnt how to mix with the poor and needy. As apprentice to a surgeon, he later became a pharmacist and a nurse and was very sympathetic to the sick and poor. His mother raised him as a Christian and though his father opposed his decision to enter the monastery, he joined the Dominican order as a lay brother and spent his entire life caring for the sick. His life of humility was very obvious that he never wanted to tell anyone about the spiritual gifts he had. Many people came to him for counsel, prayers, spiritual direction and confession, and they testify to have encountered God. Jesus showed a perfect humility as we see in the first reading of today. He is God, but while on earth, he was very humble and obedient to the father till his death. He never sought his own glory though he had the power to do so. But his humility was rewarded. God raised him up and placed him on the heights that all powers in heaven and earth have been given to him. We ask for the grace to cooperate with the grace of God quietly. God help us. Amen.
