Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Saturday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 7, 2020
SATURDAY 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II
Philippians 4:10-19, Luke 16:9-15
DO NOT LOSE YOUR WORTH BECAUSE OF MONEY
St Paul in the first reading of today tells us that it is worthless to lose our relevance because of money. When some people give you money, they feel that you are indebted to them, they commit you into respecting their opinions and doing whatever they want. St Paul spent some years in Philippi, he tried to live among the people whether he had money and food or not. He preached the word of God among them and never claimed his right to food and drink. Today he appreciates those who supported him while he was among them.
In the gospel reading, Jesus tells us to use money to win us friends instead of repelling people from us. Money should not be a dividing element between us and others. Money is a worthless element, the bible refers to it as a tainted thing. Whoever can be trusted with money can be trusted with life. Money should not be the cause of behavioural change, it should not remove compassion and feelings for human beings. Money not well used can be the cause of one's destruction.
We pray that almighty God will help us to use any material thing we have wisely in a way and manner that pleases him. God help us. Amen.
