Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Wednesday Week 2 of Ordinary Time Year I - January 20, 2021

FEAST OF BLESSED MICHAEL CYPRIAN IWENE TANSI

Phil 2:1-12, Matthew 13:44-46

THE WORLD IS A SMALL PLACE, GOD ALONE IS ENOUGH

Going through the first reading of today, I cannot but just imagine how this world will look like if we truly express love to one another. Sometimes I wonder whether we truly practice the Christian faith which we profess. As st Paul tells us today, we should not only think of our own selfish interests and gain to the detriment of others. Life will be easier for us if we think first of the good of others before our own selves. St Paul tells us to always think of others as better than us. In doing this, we will find happiness and joy.

It is very important for us to always be conscious of the fact that where we want to go to is heaven. This is why in the gospel reading of today, Matthew tells us that if we know what and how heaven is, nothing on earth will make sense to us. We will sacrifice and sell everything we have, provided we make heaven.

Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi was very conscious of this that, he left everything and entered the seminary to serve God and man. He volunteered himself to be trained as a monk when there was need of it. Many of his contemporaries and those who knew him, testify that he lived a very simple and holy life. No wonder Pope st John Paul II beatified him in 1998, the first Nigerian to reach such religious height. It is our prayer that we will be more conscious of ourselves and the fact that our journey is beyond this world. This will help us to live a life worthy of our calling as Christians. God  help us. Amen
