Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 4 of Ordinary Time Year I - February 4, 2021

THURSDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2021

FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Hebrews 12:18-19,21-24

Mark 6:7-13

YOU HAVE COME TO THE MOUNTAIN OF GOD

Many people over time, have compared the notion of God in the Old Testament and the person of Jesus in the new testament. According to them, the God of the Old Testament was very terrifying. Moses for example, experienced God on the mountain and his face began to shine so brightly. God was known to be very proactive in punishing sinners.

In the New Testament, the person of Jesus communicates a different notion of God. Jesus preached love, mercy forgiveness, and compassion. The first reading therefore tells us that it is the same God that Moses experienced on the mountain, that we experience today. We still experience God on his mountain, not afraid of him as in the Old Testament, but in joy, knowing that he loves and cares for us, and he wants us to be saved. God help us to experience him more deeply. Amen.
