FIFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II
Genesis 1:20-2:4
Mark 7:1-13
THE HUMAN PERSON AS THE APEX OF GOD'S CREATION
Yesterday we reflected on the creative power of God. We saw how by the command of the word of God, every living creative came to be.
Today the continuation of the passage of creation story, gets to the sixth day when God created man. What is very special in the creation of the human person, is the fact that God speaks in the plural form by saying "let us create man in our own image and likeness". The whole of creation is the act of the Holy Trinity, nevertheless, the human person is the apex and masterpiece of God's creation. This is because we are created in the image and likeness of God. The human person therefore, is not just a normal creature, we are above every creature on earth. God therefore handed other things he had created to us, that we may use them and take care of them.
It is therefore very important that the human person is not treated like other creatures. God esteems and loves us.
In the gospel reading, we hear Jesus defend the fact that human beings should not be treated as if they are made for laws. When making laws, we should always put the good of the human person at the fore front. Every human person, regardless of their mental and physical abilities, are to be treated like the image and likeness of God. Some people abandon their parents at their old age and do not care about them. Jesus asks that we should always remember and support our parents in their old age. They may be too old to appreciate you, but they deserve to be treated well.
May almighty God help us to see every human person as his image. God help us. Amen.
