Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Saturday Week 12 Ordinary time - June 27, 2020

Saturday 27th June 2020
12th week in ordinary time year II
Lamentations 2:2,10-14,18-19, Matthew 8:5-17
I once asked a friend who lives in Europe what he thinks is the problem why religious activities seem to be dwindling in his environment. He was very quick to blame the fact that the standard of living in many European countries are very good that many people have only a few things to pray for. Some people also believe that many rich people do not take religion serious because they have little or nothing to pray for.
The centurion in the gospel reading of today shows us that life is more than what we have and who we are. What we need from God is more than physical things. This is indeed very true because I have seen many rich people who are very committed to religious activities. The centurion in the gospel reading of today was a very rich and influential man, but his faith in Jesus is very amazing. He is not just afraid to talk to Jesus, but also has an amazing faith.
Jesus therefore calls us to that type of life with him. The more we are comfortable and influential in life, the closer we should be to Jesus for he is the source and summit of everything. God help us. Amen
