Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Wednesday Week 27 Ordinary time - October 7, 2020

WEDNESDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2020

27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY

Galatians 2:1-2,7-14, Luke 11:1-4

THE ROSARY IS A POWERFUL PRAYER

Catholics especially  those who have a special devotion to the blessed virgin Mary have often been accused of paying too much attention and respect to her. Many even accuse us Catholics of worshipping her as a goddess. Many Catholics pray the rosary a lot, some pray it every day. At the same time, it will not be surprising if we have Catholics who do not pray the rosary. Some may not even believe in its efficacy.

The holy rosary is indeed a powerful prayer. Many people have testified how God answered them through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The feast of the Holy Rosary was instituted by Pope Pius V to celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turkish fleet at the battle of Lepanto on the first Sunday in October 1571, which ended the threat of Muslim domination of the Mediterranean and was ascribed in part to the prayers and processions of the Rosary confraternity in Rome. Later the feast was moved to the fixed date of 7 October. When the church is passing through turbulent times, the most powerful weapon of prayer apart from the holy mass, is the Rosary.

In the gospel reading of today, we see how Jesus taught his disciples how to pray.

Let us intensify our prayers today, especially the holy rosary. We are in the month of October which is a month of the blessed virgin Mary. It is good that we dedicate ourselves to our lady today, she knows how best to present us to her son. May almighty God grant us the grace to put all our Hope in him. God help us. Amen.
