Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Tuesday Week 27 Ordinary time - October 6, 2020

TUESDAY 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Galatians 1:13-24, Luke 10:38-42

CHANNEL YOUR ENERGY TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Sometimes in life, we can see ourselves using the whole of our strength to do what is not right. We are sometimes very convinced that we are on the right track, but when we think better, we discover that we have only succeeded in wasting our time and energy.

In the first reading of today, we hear St Paul recount how he wasted his time and energy as he persecuted the church and the early Christians. He thought that he was doing what was right. He was ready to go any length to destroy Christianity. It was only his experience on the way to Damascus that taught him the lesson of his life and made him to understand that he was not serving God as he thought, but was persecuting his church.

In the gospel reading, we hear Martha complain that Mary was lazy and not considerate so as to help her in the kitchen chores. Jesus made her to understand that her zeal to get food ready for him at that moment was not the most important thing he needed, but to listen to his word. Let us therefore be careful so that we will not spend all our energy on things that do not matter, but things that contribute to the growth of the kingdom of God. God help us. Amen.
