Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Saturday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 14, 2020

SATURDAY 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II 3 John 1:5-8, Luke 18: 1-8 IT IS A NOBLE COURSE TO HELP SOJOURNERS It was a very wonderful thing to welcome visitors to our environment in the days of our ancestors. They welcome them to their homes and gave them the best of what they had. They sit under the moonlight and tell tales, and there is joy and happiness. In the first reading of today we hear St John writing to the Christian community, telling them to be hospitable to strangers, especially missionaries. Many missionaries are not easily accepted today in the society, the culture of hospitality is gradually dwindling. If those who did not know God were hospitable to strangers, how could Christians of today not be very sensitive to strangers around them, especially missionaries? St John tells us today that it is our duty to be hospitable especially to those who carry out the work of God. For such people who are hospitable, they do not need to ask for so long before God answers them. We see in the gospel reading that even the judge who was unrighteous, had conscience and had a reason to give to the widow. God is always speaking to us to assist those who are in need especially strangers. God help us. Amen. Fr Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie MSP
