Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Saturday Week 34 Ordinary time - November 28, 2020

SATURDAY 34TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Apocalypse 22:1-7

Luke 21:34-36

BE ON YOUR GUARD

Today is the last day of the year in the calendar of the church. By Sunday, we will enter the advent season which prepares us for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Many of us are not even conscious of the times we are, some are not bothered about the type of life they live. Jesus tells us in the gospel reading of today to be on guard about the life we live.

Sometimes we may get very soaked inside sin that we think that there is no need to repent. Jesus tells us today to guard against debauchery and drunkenness; these are vices seen in those who have let sin take over their lives and refuse to repent.

Jesus tells us that the only way we can overcome the evil one and addiction to the vices, is to keep praying. The way St John describes the beatific vision is very alluring. The righteous will see him face to face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. It will never be night again and they will not need lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will be shining on them. They will reign for ever and ever. We must let go of everything to attain this. God help us. Amen.
