Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 3 of Advent - December 17, 2020

THURSDAY 17TH DECEMBER 2020

THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT

Genesis 49:2,8-10

Matthew 1:1-17

PUT FINISHING TOUCHES TO YOUR PREPARATION

Today as we get to the 17th day of December, we draw closer to the Christmas season where we will celebrate the birth of our saviour. Today we enter the second part of the advent season where we focus more on the immediate coming of our saviour. Since the first Sunday of Advent, our focus has been on the parousia, the second coming of our saviour.

With the genealogy of Jesus in the gospel reading of today, we can see that we are already discussing the birth of our messiah. This is a moment when people become very worried if they have not acquired the things they need for Christmas. In the same way, it is a time for us to get worried if we have not prepared for the coming of the saviour. Let us ask ourselves how well we have prepared to receive him. Jesus has been showed in the gospel reading, to be the descendant of David whom God promised to send to put things right. It was also because of the coming of Jesus for our salvation that God chose Abraham our father in faith to begin a new movement, people and religion so that through him, we all will be saved. Let us get ready to receive him. God help us. Amen.
