THE HARVEST IS TRULY RICH
It is always the concern of God that we should be happy. In the first reading of today, we hear Jesus tell us of the happiness that will follow his coming. Those who weep will weep no more, those with injuries will be made whole, those who have been crying will rejoice. In the gospel reading we see a glimpse of the compassion of Jesus. He moved round the city, preaching and curing them, but he discovered that there is a lot to be done. He therefore called his disciples and gave them power to minister to the people. Those who are genuinely exercising the power are very few, many are after their own gain. We may think that we have plenty labourers in the vineyard of God, but they are actually few. We all have been called to minister to the needs of our brothers and sisters. If all of us are truly carrying out our Christian duties, the vineyard of God will be truly filled with labourers. It is our collective responsibility to care for the sick, poor, possessed, afflicted and downtrodden. Praying for others is a vital part of evangelisation and ministry. May God grant us more ministerial labourers and help us to be true labourers in his vineyard in our own various capacities. Amen.
