Hebrews 2:5-12
Mark 1:21-28
JESUS IS HERE BECAUSE OF US
There have been times when I'm either preaching or giving a lesson and wanted to quote a particular passage from the bible and I forget the exact place it is written in the bible. This is exactly what happened to the author of the letter to the Hebrews while writing the part of the first reading of today. He was obviously trying to quote psalm 8 which is what we have in the responsorial psalm of today.
The author of the first reading tells us how much God has exalted humanity by making Jesus take human form. He wonders why God loves us human beings so much, God created us in his own image and likeness, and despite our sins, he sent his son to us so that we might return to him again. The son of God was made lower than the Angels. Nevertheless, all powers and authority on earth has been handed over to Jesus.
This is what we see in the gospel reading of today as Jesus went into the synagogue in Capernaum to preach to the people. They testified that Jesus spoke as one with authority and made a deep impression on them like they had never seen before. He also cured a man who was possessed by unclean spirit. The unclean Spirit also testified to the power of God in Jesus Christ. Jesus is in this world because of us, let us run to him with all our situations, and he will make us whole again. God help us. Amen.
