Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for January 5, 2021

TUESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

1 John 4:7-10

Mark 6:34:-44

BE SENSITIVE TO OTHERS

Many of us are only concerned about ourselves and our wellbeing. If we are in a privileged position, we forget about others who are not. That we are able to have 3 meals a day does not mean that everyone else can do the same.

As we enter a new year, it is a time to look out for one another. The month of January could be very difficult for some people especially salary earners, due to the fact that they have spent a lot during the festive season.

Jesus in the gospel reading knew that the crowd was hungry after spending a long time with them. He therefore told his Apostles to bring the little bread and fish they had, he blessed it, multiplied it and shared it for all those present. Both the owners of the bread and fish, as well as all those present had their fill. Only God can satisfy our hunger, not what we hoard for ourselves. The more we agree to be channels of blessings to others this year, the more we are blessed.

St John in the first reading tells us that love of one another is a sign that we have been begotten by God. May almighty God grant us the grace to consider the situations of those around us. God help us. Amen.
