FRIDAY 8TH JANUARY 2021
FRIDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
1 John 5:5-13
Luke 5:12-16
IS YOUR CASE WORSE THAN THAT OF A LEPER?
The word Corona virus has become a very popular name all over the world this moment. Almost everything is blamed on Covid-19 pandemic. Those who contract the virus have been placed in isolation centres where they cannot have any physical contact with other people.
Many people who have contracted the virus do not want their names revealed to the public because of the stigma and trauma. One can only imagine the physical pain they go through too.
As I look at the story of the leper in the gospel reading of today, I see similar scenario with Covid-19 patients. They are expected to isolate themselves from people. They are even to shout at the top of their voices that they are unclean so that people will not come close to them.
It was a very courageous decision for the leper in the gospel reading of today to come close to Jesus asking for healing. The decision was very fruitful as we can see.
Many of us are in different situations in life, some of us are afraid or ashamed to call on Jesus for help. We heard from Jesus in his mission statement yesterday that he has come to free us from all our diseases, infirmities and sins. Let us call on him today even if our situation is more than that of a leper or Covid-19 patient. Jesus will heal the situation. God help us. Amen.
