Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Tuesday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 10, 2020

TUESDAY 32ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II MEMORIAL OF POPE ST. LEO THE GREAT Titus 2:1-8,11-14, Luke 17:7-10 WE ARE MERE SERVANTS OF GOD God in his infinite wisdom knows how to take care of his church at every point in time. He has the perfect plan as to how things should be. He continues to raise up people to shepherd the church at different age and time. In the 5th century when the barbarians invaded Europe, a lot of damage was done. Leo the Great as he is regarded, became Pope in 440AD, and when the barbarians attacked Rome, he was filled with the wisdom of God to make sure the human beings and their properties were saved. He negotiated with Attila the Hun one of their leaders not to plunder the city. He also led the church through one of it's most turbulent moments with the doctrinal controversies in the western and eastern churches. He made a lot of efforts and sacrifices to preserve the unity of the church. He was a true father of the faith. His many doctrinal and spiritual writings are still very much in use today especially in the Office of the readings. In the gospel reading of today, we hear Jesus tell us to always remember that it is the grace of God that we are able to do most if the things we do. We should therefore dispose ourselves to be used by God, but we should be conscious that we are not the ones who have done them. When we have achieved so much like Pope St Leo, we should tell ourselves that we are merely useless servants. It is the grace of God that has achieved so much through us. God help us. Amen.
