Hebrews 4:1-5,11
Mark 2:1-12
NEVER GIVE UP
I was on a journey with some of my classmates sometime ago when we got to a very bad spot where it was very obvious that the vehicle would not be able to pass through it to continue the journey. At this moment, we got very discouraged and were thinking of how to make a 30 minutes journey back to where we would get an alternative route. It was at this moment that one of us said that we should give a trial to see if we could manage and pass through the bad road. His speech encouraged all of us and after much trial though a difficult one, we were able to scale through and we were all happy.
As I reflect on the gospel reading of today, I could only imagine what could have motivated the friends of the paralysed man to bring down the roof so as to get the man to Jesus. There certainly must have been some words of encouragement from one of them.
Sometimes it is not the strength to do what is worthwhile and praiseworthy that is lacking, but the motivation to do so. When you gather good friends around yourself, you will get good advice that will motivate you to excel. What was important was that the four friends carried the man to Jesus, and the rest was easy; he was healed. No matter how difficult it may seem, continue to give a trial, and God will definitely make it easy at the end.
We ask God for the grace to continue to push on and not be discouraged despite the challenges we face daily. God help us. Amen.
