Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 19, 2020

THURSDAY 33RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Apocalypse 5:1-10,

Luke 19:41-44

NOTHING STANDS FOREVER EXCEPT GOD

When we were growing up as children, there were some institutions and buildings around us that were very magnificent to behold. We used to think that the kingdom of heaven must be as beautiful as such a place. If some of those buildings are still standing today, we would bear witness that majority of the buildings are now shadows of themselves.

This is the same way Jesus feels in the gospel reading of today. Looking at the great city of Jerusalem, Jesus told them that a time of war will come when the city will be destroyed and no stone will be found on top of another. They should endeavour to embrace peace so as to avert the evil days that may come. The Jews obviously did not hearken  to the voice of Jesus. Because of this, the city of Jerusalem including the temple was destroyed in 70AD during the war by the Romans as Jesus had predicted. Trivial things therefore  should not cause quarrel among us, less there will be war and we will lose the little that we had already suffered to build. Irrespective of who we are, we should seek peace with one another. God help us. Amen.
